Our Governors

About the Governing Body

The Governors are the formal strategic body who meet at least once each term to set priorities for the school and agree on the long term plans including the school budget.

They agree the vision, ethos and strategic direction for the school including policy and procedures, with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement and pastoral care.

Specific duties include agreeing the school budget, setting staffing levels, ensuring that a broad and balanced curriculum is delivered whilst ensuring that management of the school premises is given high priority which includes monitoring the health and safety of pupils, staff and visitors.

The Governing Body is made up of parent governors, elected by the parents of pupils at the school, staff governors including the Headteacher, Local Authority appointed Governors and Community Governors.  The team is made up of a variety of people from different backgrounds, but who all share the passionate belief that Leasowe Primary School should be a happy and successful school where every child is given the opportunity to reach their full potential.

The Governing Body has four sub-committees which meet at least once each term: Finance, Pay and Personnel, Health and Safety, Premises and Curriculum.  These committees report actions/recommendations to the full Governing Body which also meets at least once a term.

Contacting Governors

If you would like to contact any of our Governors please send a letter for their attention via the School Office.

Parents are asked to put their requests or complaints in writing to the Governing Body; most Governors are not based in school and generally only meet formally once each term.

If you have any questions about our Governing Body, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs J Hathaway (Our school Business Manager).  Our Governors are volunteers from the community who work together to ensure that the school is well managed.  The Headteacher and staff representatives are also members of the Governing Body.

Governor Profiles

Moira Kenneway - Chair of The Governing Body

I was delighted to be asked to join the Board of Governors at Leasowe Primary School. I have now been a member of the school community for 18 wonderful months and have enjoyed every moment and every visit.

I have been involved in Education for 30 years working as a teacher, SENCo and Headteacher in schools in Huyton and Runcorn. The schools I led were very similar to Leasowe Primary in many ways – full of joy, happiness, high standards, love and care. I have experience of working with children with Special Educational Needs as my previous school had three Resource Bases for children with a diagnosis of autism or social communication needs.

As a former Headteacher I have lots of experience and knowledge to support and challenge the school and want to work alongside the staff and school community in their learning journey. Together we can ensure every child has a great school experience.

The children I have met have all been wonderful. They are enthusiastic and eager to learn. They are kind and thoughtful. They are supported and guided by a strong and passionate staff team. The moment I walked through the doors at Leasowe I knew it was a wonderful place.

I am looking forward to meeting more of you over the coming year. I live in Wirral and in my spare time can often be found on my Paddle Board at Leasowe Bay or battering some golf balls at Moreton Golf Range just around the corner from school.

I look forward to many more years at Leasowe and am looking forward to the year ahead.

Sue Ross - Co-Opted Governor

I have been involved with Leasowe Primary School for a very long time. I have lived in Leasowe all my life. My three boys (the oldest now being 24!) attended this school and they have now all gone on to be extremely successful in secondary school, college and the work place. I believe that this school lay the bedrock for their education and ensured they had a love for learning and the confidence to take their part in the world. Their place here led to my first role at LPS, which was as a Parent Governor. I took up this role over eight years ago and have played several roles on the governing body since, including Staff and now Co-Opted Governor.

I became a staff member over five years ago and for most of that time have worked as a teacher in our Resourced Provision, a role I am very proud and passionate about. This year however, I have taken up a new role of teaching Science throughout the school and I am aiming to provide all children with an up to date and progressive Science Curriculum and hopefully nurture some scientists of the future!

I am very proud to be part of the Leasowe community and I sincerely believe that our school is at the centre of it. I am very passionate and dedicated in serving our school as a Governor and helping to make Leasowe Primary School a happy, safe and successful place to learn.

Michael Kamperman - Co-Opted Governor

My name is Mike Kamperman, and I am proud to bring over 18 years of experience in the public sector to my role as a school governor.

Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to work in diverse fields, including the Ministry of Defence and the environment sector, where I have gained extensive expertise in supply chain, finance, procurement, and contract management. My current role as a manager within Natural Resources Wales involves managing a contract management support service team. This involves overseeing and delivering essential services that support the organisation’s operational efficiency and strategic objectives. My experience in managing complex contracts and financial operations has equipped me with the skills to navigate challenges, ensure compliance, and drive improvements in service delivery.

I am a qualified professional in finance and a member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply, reflecting my commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professional development and ethical practice.

As a school governor, I am dedicated to using my expertise to contribute to the school’s governance, ensuring that it operates effectively and provides the best possible outcomes for its pupils. I am passionate about education and committed to supporting the school’s leadership in achieving its goals for the future.
